Instructions

  1. Place the almond milk, coconut cream (if using), almond butter, vanilla extract, and stevia into a blender and blend until mixed.
  2. Add the protein powder, cocoa powder, and ice. Blend until smooth. Serve and enjoy.

Tips

If you like your smoothie extra creamy, try adding 1/4 of an avocado per serving. It will also bulk up the healthy fats to keep you full even longer.

For an even more filling smoothie, add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or any other healthful oil. You may also substitute the almond milk for 1 cup Greek yogurt if you prefer a dairy-based smoothie. If so, add a little water for a more liquid consistency.

Protein powder

You can also use vanilla flavored whey protein powder in place of the unflavored whey, stevia and vanilla extract. Ensure the protein powder uses natural flavoring and Diet Doctor-approved sweeteners.

Recommended special equipment

High-speed blender.

Would raw eggs whites be an acceptable substitute for protein powder?

The white from one large egg only has 4g protein.

Any recommended brands of whey protein isolate?

Ideally you can find a brand with no added sweetener and is 0g carbs. In the USA, two common brands are Isopure and Jay Robb; both offer an unflavored whey protein isolate.

This is so good. My husband and I split a serving for a dessert. So good.

Thanks for the recipe! I made a few subs with what I had on hand, but turned out great. Much thicker than I thought it was going to be. I had made it at night, put in fridge, and took it to work the next morning. Substitutions were natural peanut butter for the almond butter, allulose for the stevia, and MCT oil for the coconut cream.

I've been making this often again lately and found out that if you get the vanilla Isopure protein powder, you can skip adding both the vanilla and the sweetener. Makes it very quick to make. I usually use peanut butter instead of almond butter just because it's what on hand. I also now prefer the scoop of coconut cream. I just keep a can of regular full fat coconut milk in the fridge and it lasts all week to scoop the cream out. The coconut milk separates nicely as well with the cold temperature.

Is it ok to use Collagen Peptides for the protein source

This is absolutely delicious! I subbed Chocolate Whey (no sugar) and PBFit peanut butter and did not use the coconut cream for a Protein Sparing Modified Fast day! But I can add the cream on regular keto days! Thank you so much for this recipe!
