Ingredients

  • ½ lb (2½ cups) 220 g (550 ml) broccoli
  • 1½ oz. 45 g butter or light olive oil
  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef or ground turkey
  • salt and ground black pepper
This recipe has been added to the shopping list.

Instructions

  1. Rinse and trim the broccoli including the stem. Cut into small florets. Peel the stem and cut it into small pieces.
  2. Heat a dollop of butter in a frying pan over high heat. Make sure the pan is big enough to fit both the ground beef and broccoli.
  3. Brown the ground beef until it is almost done. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  4. Lower the heat, add more butter and fry the broccoli for 3-5 minutes. Stir the ground beef every now and then.
  5. Season the broccoli and serve while still hot.

Tip!

This strict keto dish can be cooked with other low-carb vegetables like zucchini, asparagus, green beans and spinach. Feel free to flavor with your favorite spice – chili and paprika powder, some herbs or onion powder all add flavor! It's also delicious to serve with an extra dollop of crème fraiche or mayonnaise.

What do you do with the mayonnaise or creme freche (if you decide to use it)?

I prefer twice as much vegetables.

it says "optional" i'm guessing you would mix it in after it has finished cooking... just for creaminess.

Heating butter on high torches it. Is this acceptable?

It's no very clear if you use some of the mayonnaise & cream while cooking, or just after. The word "extra" confuses me

When it says "4 1/2" ounces broccoli, is that on a food scale? Or in a measured cup? There is a big difference! The cup is way smaller :)

    Thanks,
    Katie

This dish sounds so very simple. However, it seems to have been written by a high school drop-out. Please update it to include what exactly to do w/ the mayo mixture.

Whoever suggested mayo, needs to be beaten with a stick. Completely nauseating...

It’s very clear and obvious to me.

Should I drain my ground beef..?

That's up to you! There are different levels of fat content in different ground beefs. If you feel it's too greasy, you can drain it.
  19. Doing keto again.
In the nutrition fact part, you put 5g of carb and under it 3g of fiber
So the net carb intake is 2g or did you already reduce it ?
    Reply: #20
  20. Kristin Parker Team Diet Doctor
This is 5g net carbs, as we recommend people track. We know some people do count total carbs or need to keep track of fiber intake so we list that separately.

Do I have to fry the veggies? Can I steam them and then add butter or mayo on them? The frying is making me have this gross feeling

I just made this and it’s soooo goood! I added garlic, smoked paprika, a little cayenne, mayo and hot sauce and it’s to die for! And its keto! I’ll be making this often from now on. Great and simple recipe, thank you!

I made this tonight and it was so good! I couldn"t believed how much 3 oz of butter (i made for 2 people)! I didnt measure brocoli, just used what I had and added some left over green beens. Cooked onions with it too.

I'm trying this recipe tonight. I think that adding onions or spices is to whatever your taste buds like. I think i will add cream cheese to my dish tonight. Adding spices like chili powder, onion powder, paprika, pepper and possibly a small amount of cayenne. Fingers crossed. Our 13 year old is really tiny so i think i will make a small amount of rice for her though. Thanks for the recipes.

Kaite.....I believe it is 4.5 ounces......pretty much...add as much as you like. If you want less broccoli, then I'd measure by cups. Pretty much add or use as little or much as you like. I suggest more....Yum!

An ounce is a weight, not a volume like a cup. You would weigh it.

When you say a serving, how much is a serving

The default setting is 2 servings, so you would divide the recipe in half to get each serving.

Delicious! I added red pepper as well for colour. After everything was cooked, I then added 1/4 dairy free mayo and 1/4 dairy sour cream for a creamy sauce. Will make again.

Yes, that should work well. You would just want to keep an eye on how many carbs you are adding with your serving.

This recipe was awesome! I did make it with beef stir fry cubes because that is what I had in freezer. Does it change the effect of being a keto meal? I added some other spices and turned out delicious! A nice quick meal! Luv it after a busy day!

That would be fine for keto! It just may change the protein/fat ratio a bit.

Yum! I seasoned with granulated garlic, salt, pepper, coco aminos, onion powder, sesame seed. . . . .would also be good made with ground bison and a bit of red pepper would spice it up. I had no problem with the recipe as written. It did not "torch the butter" and instead of "frying" the broccoli, after adding the broccoli, I put a lid on the pan and steamed it. This will be a favorite.

Great, fast and tasty! I viewed this as a quick beef stroganoff with asparagus instead of the noodles. I seasoned the beef accordingly and added the this and chopped asparagus near the end and a dollop of sour cream at the end.
