How Daniel beat his type 2 diabetes and lost over 40 pounds

Find your own paradise

When Daniel was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, he didn’t want to go on medication. He refused to believe that medication was his only alternative, so he asked his doctor for another solution. This is what happened:

Hello,

My name is Daniel Johnson, I reside in Southwest Idaho. I am 60 years of age. In April of this year 2018, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My doctor suggested a medication to help with this disease. I have been fortunate at my age to not be on any kind of medication.

I asked my doctor for a plan “B” opposing meds. His first response was I have a serious disease and need to start taking pills, I again said there has to be a better option. He responded that he does not prescribe diets. So I asked, should I see a nutritionist. To my surprise, he agreed it would be a great idea, but he had reservations. I asked what his concerns were. His reply was 90% of his patients all start down the path of diet change and come back with failure and sign up for meds and in many cases come back worse off than where they left his office. Some even requiring amputations of limbs. I said to him, well I am willing to gamble on my self discipline. He lit up like a Christmas tree and said, wait here. Upon his return, he had a sheet explaining the keto diet along with the Diet Doctor website. He made a few suggestions regarding the startup, such as no dairy and fruit until we get past the first 12 weeks.

So fast forward to July, my A1C went from 9.7 down to 5.6. My glucose dropped from 127 to 117. He was excited about my results and suggested I start to include a few complex carbs such as carrots, beets, and other in-ground vegetables. He also asked me how I felt about the side effects of the keto diet, I was somewhat confused by this question and asked him to be more specific, he laughed and said you have lost over 30 lbs (13 kg). LOL! I said I could live with these side effects, he agreed.

I am no longer on the keto diet but don’t be panicked, I am now on the KETO LIFESTYLE! I have found it very easy to maintain my meal plans, and have discovered tons of new foods, recipes, and way of cooking.

I am now down over 40 lbs (18 kg) of weight loss in a very healthy way. I am very pleased with my doctor, most of us know medical practitioners are not nutritionists, but my doctor is very in tune with holistic care and nutrition and on my last visit he confessed his whole family lives this way as well. I really liked the free startup challenge and food suggestions to start my new way of living healthy.

Thank you, Diet Doctor!

Regards,

Dan J

Contratulations Dan, those are impressive results. As you’re probably aware, not many people with type 2 diabetes manage to get down from 9.7 to normal HbA1c levels with drugs, so doing it without drugs is fantastic. And, most likely, if you can maintain this, it will drastically reduce or perhaps almost eliminate your risk of diabetes complications.

I’m also happy that there are doctors out there like yours (and I think they are getting more and more common).
