The keto diet: “It felt like a miracle”

Could a keto diet combat asthma, psoriasis and persistent lethargy, in addition to helping with weight issues? Let’s ask Marilyn, a 72-year old woman:

Thank you so much for this opportunity. My story is simple and relatively minor compared to many of the outstanding successes that I read about on the website, but very life changing to me.

I am a 72-year old woman who was suffering with lethargy, asthma, psoriasis and had about 20 lbs (9 kg) to lose. My family doctor and I have a brief conversation about nutrition and the value we both placed on it and how tough it was to find suitable programs for someone my age. My doctor casually called grains and carbs, “the elephant in the room”. Just a few days later, a friend sent me a link to a YouTube video of Dr. Andreas speaking about low-carb high-fat [keto] living. There was also a link to Dr. Jason Fung’s video on intermittent fasting.

I was immediately struck by the simplicity and the science behind both aspects of this lifestyle plan and signed up for the “2-week challenge“. I certainly did not have to wait two weeks to experience the benefits of the low-carb high-fat lifestyle. The energy boost was almost immediate, the raw, red, scaly patches of psoriasis began to heal and I was able to reduce the use of rescue inhalers for my asthma significantly. It felt like a “miracle”. I quickly signed-up for a subscription to access the recipe collection from the site, as it was obvious that I’d need to re-learn how to cook.

As my daughter-in-law observed my progress, she and my son got on board. Although my son has been unable to follow through, my daughter-in-law has lost 50 lbs (23 kg) in 6 months and saw numbers on the scale below 200 lbs (91 kg) for the first time in 20 years. She was thrilled!! Though she struggles from time to time and I have had some occasional back-slides, we are both deeply committed to eating this way and have abandoned our old ways for good.

Oh yes, the friend who sent me the link has lost all her post-menopausal 55 lbs (25 kg) and most importantly, has reversed her type 2 diabetes. We are all convinced and have been spreading the word. Bless you and all at DIETDOCTOR.COM!!!!!
