As you can see, bread is by far the food people miss the most, followed by dessert/sweets and beer. Below are our best suggestions for low-carb versions of these foods.

Low-carb versions

Be a bit careful with desserts even if they are low carb, as these foods can slow down your weight loss if you have them frequently.

If you like drinking beer, I recommend trying wine instead. It’s good too, and has way fewer carbs.

    Dear Andreas,
What about bread made out of resistant starch like potato starch or high amylose wheat/corn?
    Thanks,

I recently discovered the most amazing recipe for bread. It has the same texture and taste as regular bread. In my last batch I added some Deli Rye Flavour and made the most amazing rye bread. You can watch the wonderful Kristie make the recipe at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUsFqRELdqQ. The bread is very calorie dense and super filling so slice it thin!

As a life-long carb pounder I missed bread for the better part of a year. I REALLY REALLY missed it for a few months. But, as I've seen my pounds melt away and my fitness level consistently improve, I've come to see bread for what it is: food I'm allergic to. Now I don't care about bread at all. Ever. And regular visits to DietDoctor have helped me to open my eyes, take responsibility for myself, and make positive changes in my life.

I don't miss bread or cereals anymore: I crave meat and fat. And the 180lb me now wonders how the 300lb me could have let me go so far off track.

Drinking low carb beer hasn't created a problem for me. Still losing weight, indulging in just one a day. Don't miss the bread, cookies or desserts. Sometimes the pizza commercials on TV are hard to take, but success is what you make it.,

I've personally found pizza (live near a town known for great pizza) and spaghetti to be the hardest. We've found a good pizza crust recipe and we've been using a spiralizer for fake spaghetti. I've also taken to making very infrequent (about 6 weeks) bread with einkorn wheat (an ancient grain). I can't tell that I've had problems with einkorn wheat, but it is high carb. I can tell I have problems with regular wheat, though.

I also have found that my predilection for sugar, wheat, bread, etc., has waned over time. But even after almost three years of exclusively eating low carb except for rare exceptions (parties, vacation, anniversaries) , I find the siren call of high carb still is there. It's just reduced.

I miss fruits, some root vegetables like sweet potato, cassava and yham. And beer of course.

I'm lucky that pretty much everyone from my mother (and my gran) to my ex-wife, including most of my friends, are excellent cooks. I've spent my life being exposed to different foods from all nations. Somehow I don't actually "miss" much, I think of things like bread as "things I used to eat" and every so often, mainly when I eat out and am tempted, these things never seem to be as satisfying as what I usually eat now.

I might change my mind though if I had to give up bacon, fish or asparagus . . .

I miss chili. Soups. Like beef barley soup. Chili feeds with family. Too bad beans are taboo.

However, after taking multiple insulins, like 4 times a day for over 25 years, taking NONE now is worth the sacrifice of a few favorite foods. LCHF works for me!

William originally chili was only meat. Chili con Carne (Chili with Meat): http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1016037-classic-chili-con-carne. And there are lots of soups that don't use carb vegs or you can leave them out, use less, and watch portion. Fire up your slow cooker.
