It’s been over two years since we first met Annette, and she told us how her keto journey began. It all started with a bet she made with her dad; she had agreed to try the keto diet and if she managed to lose 50 pounds (23 kilos), he would pay her $100. “When I started, I was pre-diabetic, had high blood pressure, and felt terrible all the time. I had no energy. I couldn’t even bend over to do my pedicure since most of my weight sat around my stomach.”
With the support of her family and local keto group, Annette not only won the bet, but also reversed her pre-diabetes and high blood pressure in just two years on the keto diet.
Today, she shares an update on her story in the hopes of motivating others on a similar journey to better health.
“I’ve had my ups and downs. I got covid in September 2021 for six weeks, and because of that, I gained 10 pounds (5 kilos). But thankfully, I got back on track and I lost them. We never know what life throws at us and it’s hard, but if you go off, just get right back on.
What still works for me is bulletproof coffee, no snacks, and only eating when I’m hungry.
I’m so much healthier now; I don’t worry about being pre-diabetic anymore. I have good blood pressure and feel good about myself. I still can’t believe I lost 98 pounds (44 kilos) and kept it off for the most part.
I’ve tried practically every diet, but keto is the only thing that works. A misconception most people believe is you eat meat all the time, but that’s not true. This is a lifestyle change; it’s sustainable. You can do it!
Now is the perfect time to start keto and change your life! It’s the best thing I ever did.
One important thing is reading labels. There are over 98 different names for sugar. Mannitol skyrockets your insulin and will cause you to gain weight. Also, just because it says it’s keto doesn’t mean it’s good for you.
And finally, remember, don’t do it alone. You need support. My support is my Mom and Dad, my keto group, and Diet Doctor. Being able to read all the success stories that result from a keto diet is very inspiring.”
