Police officer losing weight and sugar addiction with LCHF

Before and after

Before and after

I received an e-mail from police officer Maykel in Florida, who struggled with weight and sugar addiction. Here’s his story about what happened when he found LCHF:

The Email

I’d like to thank you for your advice and guidance. My name is Maykel Leyva and I am 34 yrs old. I live in Miami, Florida. I’m a police officer and have always had trouble losing weight and remaining lean.

I was having sugar cravings one night and ran across a youtube video where you were giving a speech. Everything you said and have on your website I followed. I’d like to share with you my progress, thanks to you.

I would have huge sweet cravings, and diabetes is very prevalent in my family as well.

Thank you again!

Maykel

I think the point if this post: not having trouble loosing the excess weight, and because thats easy now, the motivation is th rough the roof- might as well have a six pack -

    Great job. Keep it up.

Paul the rat - although that is a very interesting article, I would say it is very flawed in that it only took into account for 18 people. Statistically this study is crap. Give me a study that provides the results of 1800 people and then we'll talk.

Biochemical processes are not numbers game theory. What works for 18 works for 1800.
(in studies using animals, to describe changes in a biochemical pathway often 6 animals per study group is enough, 10 is plenty).
I presume your are statistician (although no one should presume anything)

It's not only about sample size, it's also about effect size. If 20/20 die in the control group and 0/20 in the experimental group, then the result is pretty clear. This is not observational Harvard-style bullshit.

PaleoZeta .... I looked reasonably like the before shot, belly flab, little defnition (and I dont have such Pecs) .... and after following LCHF, and Andreas's guides... Ive dropped 3 belt sizes, and Im not quite as ripped, but I am 48 and looking and feeling good much definition, and almost a 6 pack....... dropped 6 kilo from 77 to 71 , and I only exercise for 30 mins a week . So its not just for 35 yr olds ;) ... and you are right too.... he would find it easier, but if i hadnt gone LCHF, I couldnt have done it.... and belive me I had tried before LCHF , I did the same exercise regime but twice a week, tried to be careful and 'healthy' eating, but I could only get to 73, and that was thru starving myself, and not sustainable. Now I eat delicious food, dont go hungry, and have heaps of energy. Blood Lipids all awesome.... Doctor says I am in great shape... :)
ps. I read Gary Taubes "why we get fat and what to do about it" ... it changed the whole game plan...

I don't understand why LCHF doens't work for me. I've only gained weight since I started eating more fat. What is wrong? Is it possible that it doens't help some people lose weight?
Besides, how long on a LCHF diet is long enough to tell it doesn't work on you?

I suppose I am in body the female equivalent of the before shot of Maykel! Not that overweight but carrying my weight in the 'bad areas! I went LCHF in January -I haven't lost any weight yet but I probably only need to shift 3 kilos . Before going LCHF I suppose I was low carb low fat! I never ate many low fat foods ( except low fat milk coffee now and then) or processed maybe pasta once a week And a little rice- 2 bits of grainy bread at the weekend - hardly excessive! Didn't even eat starchy veges like potatoes! ( now only some rice now and then)I am very much an 'asian'influenced kinda cook (I love to cook) love Fish & always have had great blood results.
BUT I always had an 'upset tummy' &assoiated complications! I did eat TONNES of fruit........ I was really shocked when I realised my 3-7 pieces of fruit a day wasn't as healthy as I thought!! I never ate sweets or anything but was addicted to fruit! Anyway now I'm lucky if I have a few berries /strawberries or kiwi a week ( no wonder my gut was such a mess!!) gut etc now fantastic!
I am very low carb probably around 10gm a day - I love butter & healthy fats that's over 150gm a day and eat tonnes of eggs' a lot more organic meat along with my fish and always ate tonnes of veges
Another reason I went LCHF is because I had a very nasty foot injury in July last year a 'debilitating life changing ' injury (the surgeon said that not me!!!) I wanted to get my body as healthy as I could to help the healing process bone & joint health - so the only inflammation is my foot..... It's a very long & frustrating road to recovery as I was a very active 53 year old!!! So I am always in pain with my foot which doesn't help my feeling of 'wellness' but things are slowly getting better and even though I haven't shifted the 3 kilos I put on after the injury ( I was immobilised and being fed raisin toast for breakfast!!!! - with marg!!!) since I started LCHF I HAVENT gained any more! So I think as I start to recover more and can be more active the bit of weight will drop off!and I'm eating tonnes more 'calories' in fat but not getting 'fatter' .
I am very pleased with the results and I'm sure by December (my target) -17 months after my injury I will be a lot more active and back to my normal weight and hopefully out of pain and feeling incredible!!
