It’s common to hear general statements like, “protein is hard on kidneys.” Or, “keto diets can help kidney disease.” Or even “keto diets are bad for kidneys.” What’s the truth?

Renowned kidney disease researcher Dr. Thomas Weimbs and registered dietitian and renal nutrition expert Jessianna Saville join us to discuss how they use keto diets to help people with various types of kidney disease.

We also explore the important topic of dietary protein. Does a diet high in protein damage our kidneys? It depends. Those with normal kidney function need not worry. But those with already damaged kidneys need to exercise caution.

Finally, we explore the differences between animal and plant proteins and their effects on kidney function. And, we cover what degree of kidney dysfunction, as quantified by common lab tests like the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), raises concern.

Dr. Weimbs and Ms. Saville share numerous clinical pearls you don’t want to miss!
