Video editing

Do you wonder why my lecture from the AHS isn’t posted yet? It won’t be posted like the others with the slides separate. Instead I’m editing it myself using two recordings (wide + close up) and my slides and animations. It’s a lot of work so it may take another week.

In fact, editing video in Final Cut Pro X is so slow on my old iMac, I decided to order a brand new maxed out iMac. It’s always good to find an excuse for buying more electronics.

  1. I know how it is! I recently edited my own wedding, with recordings from several HD cameras. Took a lot of time... Did it in Pinnacle Studio 15. :)

Final Cut Pro X isnt the best solution for multicam editing, in fact that was one of the things that created some noise from the FCP community when they released X.

Premiere and Avid exist for the Mac and should work better in this regard.

  3. I miss the old iMovie. It was great and easy to edit in. You could have as many timelines as you needed. The current iMove blows as it's trying to be iPhoto for video which is a really bad idea. Don't know much about FCP but ANY video editing is a pain if you're doing a lot of cuts and insertions.

Doc, let us know when it's up. Looking forward to it and thank you very much for what you're doing here for us.

  4. Also, I'm jealous of your new iMac. I want too, my old one is getting a bit sluggish around the edges. I'll wait another couple years and let Lion get well established.
  5. I knew it would not take too long before a 28# iMac would be in yr new office ;)

Awesome. I would have offered the AHS people my help to edit the videos, but getting the raw material to me on the other side of the world would be problematic. Someone should volunteer to edit them, they would be so much more valuable with the slides inserted at the appropriate times.
  7. Totally agree with Mathew, slides inserted in the video is way to go!

I think Doc is trying to set a new standard for presentations as well as videos of them... ;-)

I wouldn't call it a "new" standard. But I'm inspired by the high standard that exist elsewhere (like TED, Presentation Zen, Resonate) and I think it's time to bring it to the diet debate. ;)
  9. Doc, I'm sure you are aware of it too, but I think it's worth mentioning that sound quality is often a sadly overlooked factor...
  10. It will be worth the wait, Andreas. Looking forward to it!

    Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt,

I am looking forward to the upload of your presentation. I appreciate that you are taking the time to incorporate your slides with the video upload. While I have enjoyed the other presenters' videos, I cannot get the full informative experience, because I can't see the slide corresponding to their speech. As always, I am grateful for what you do. I hope to see your book one day, translated into English, and published in America.

    Doc, are you done yet?
  13. Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, MD Team Diet Doctor
Soon. I actually had to get my new computer up and running before it became possible to finish editing the video. Getting close now!

How goes the editing process? You are missed and are rising to the top of my to do list. Lynda's - Dr. Frassetto, is the first completed video up and running and that is the format I would prefer you follow, I can't remember if I sent you the .jpeg's or not. Also, no matter what you do, I do want a copy of your audio track, since I know you are a problem child.

    Hi Matthew,
I am happy to send you the raw footage, I worked out the process with Andreas. I'm not sure who you contacted, but if it was me, I must have missed your email. I've sent out a couple of help requests to the volunteers, and I'm sending a blanket email to the presenters today.

I was just curious who the madman was who is embedding all the raw talks, somehow I should have known.
