Common Questions

Do I have to pay to benefit from this site? No. The daily blog and all the main guides and recipes and much else is free forever. And all the membership material is free to check out for a month. Should you stay a member for more than one month you are supporting the production of ever more great free material for everyone.

Shouldn’t everything online be free? The material on the membership pages can not be produced for free. It’s the result of the full-time job of a number of people, as well as costly equipment. However, you can check it all out for free – if you can do so within one free month.

Is the content for beginners or for more experienced people? Both. There is a lot of content for beginners but also a number of videos, presentations and interviews on more specialized topics.

I already know everything about LCHF, why should I join? It’s great that you already know so much! The membership site contains knowledge from many of the world’s leading experts, packaged as professionally and simply as possible. Including many things that surprised me even though I thought I knew almost everything already. Additionally, membership fees support the free Diet Doctor site. So you can help other people to learn what you already know. Finally: you can try it for free.

Couldn’t all this be financed by advertising or sponsorship instead? No. That would require selling our credibility and we’d never do that. DietDoctor.com is completely independent from the food and pharmaceutical industries, we don’t accept a penny from them. Not in the past, not now, not in the future. Never. Learn more

Do I need a fast internet connection? All new videos are recorded in highest HD quality, so a fast internet connection will give you maximum quality. However it’s also possible to watch videos in lower resolution if your internet connection is slower. It’s very possible to watch via a modern mobile connection as well. If you can watch videos on YouTube you’re fine.

Why charge in Dollars and not Euros or Pounds?Half of the readers on the Diet Doctor site are Americans, more than any other country or region. But it’s fine to join from other places, the cost is automatically translated into your currency. E.g. €8.3 or £5.8 (April 2015) if you stay beyond the free month. More currencies

I don’t have the time to watch videos online, could I listen instead?Sure. It’s very possible to just listen to interviews, presentations etc. while driving a car, walking around or doing something else.

Sounds like a great idea, but surely not many people will be interested in supporting Diet Doctor with a membership. Isn’t this revolution going to fail? It’s already working. We launched a more basic membership site on our Swedish site in June 2014 and we were astounded by the support shown. In January 2016 there were over 8,000 Swedish members supporting us – and more are joining every month. This English membership site was launched in April 2015 and passed 1,000 members within days. There are now (May 2016) over 15,000 total members and the number continues to grow rapidly. We’ll always use every member’s support to the best of our abilities, see the next answer.

What are member fees used for?Every cent is used for getting closer to our ultimate goal: empowering people everywhere to revolutionize their health. At this time we’re focused on improving our site to make low carb simple, producing more great content for both members and non-members, as well as on growing our organization and hiring more great people to help out in our cause. We may be a new and small organization still (7 full-time employees and 20+ part-timers/freelancers/moderators) but we are growing exponentially, thanks to the support of ever more readers and members. I just had a question for the Diet Doctor, I was wondering if he had a recipe for a LCHF rustic apple tart made with almond flour. If so could he post it. Thank you so much. I have been doing the LCHF way of healthy eating for about 15 weeks now and have lost 56 pounds. I feel great and do not feel deprived of any food. Being a diabetic my blood sugar numbers have all leveled out to more like someone who doesn't have diabetes. I feel GREAT!!! Thank you so much Diet Doctor.

    Hi Angie!

I'm so happy to hear your story! Unfortunately, we don't yet have a recipe for a rustic apple tart. We are constantly adding new recipes to our site and there are apple desserts coming up for the holiday season, but so far not a tart one. I hope you will like them anyway!

I am also having issues with losing weight. I started on what I thought was a good LC diet, protein, fat, salads, no fruit, no grains, rice, beans etc. I still could not get into ketosis. I finally figured it out, it was the peppers and tomatoes in my salad. So now I have limited my salad to greens only and am in ketosis but not losing weight. So...I started a 20-24 hour fast 2 times a week and ....still no weight loss. I'm totally stumped. I did this in 05 and lost 70 lbs, but that was meat and fat only, no veg (I was miserable as I love my veggies). Most days I eat one good meal, maybe almonds or cheese stick, but never 3 meals any more. Also I only eat home made foods and drink only water, nothing boxed, canned and only frozen veg when needed. It's nice not to be hungry, but I need to lose weight.
Meal examples-eggs, salsa and sour cream. London broil with grilled eggplant and squash and or Chinese broccoli. Roasted pork loin, greens and squash (yellow). I've limited veggies to very low carb. Sometimes, if just a little hungry, just a low carb shake with almond milk, or a handful of almonds. Any suggestions?

My names jo. I'm from Australia.  Saw an ad on Facebook for diet doctor and haven't stopped following you since. Following all your rules for 3 weeks as well as fasting 16 hours . 1 meal at 1045am and then fasting additional 8 hours having 2nd and last meal by 645pm. Stopped all imitation sugar and coke zero. Drinking 3 litres of water and taking vitamin D and multi vitamin. I tried challenge, love the concept but felt ill as soooooo much butter in eggs etc etc.  SO now just Sticking to your rules. I feel fatter than ever. What am I doing wrong. If I put more weight on I don't know what I'll do. Regards Joanne boden

Where do I find an eating plan?

I believe you are not eating enough... your system is protecting itself by "holding on" to the wieght since its always starving... Continue with your food choice but, increase to 3-5 meals a day. Also, you don't mention what your physical activity is like... this should also be part of your day to day plan.

I tried this kind of diet no for one week and already lost 3 kilos (6,6 pound). So it definitely works, BUT the high amout of meat consume, won't be good for your body as well. For the first and also second week, they want you to buy 1,5 kilo "red" meat (beef, pork etc.). That is way to much for a long term diet and can cause serious conditions, like atherosclerosis or kidney stones, because of the large amount of cholesterol we take up. I don't say, this form of diet is unhealty or even dangerous, but you have to keep in mind, that too much meat isn't good for your body either. I don't want anybody to feel offended, just be cautious with what you eat. So maybe reduce the number of meat dishes and instead use more veggies. In addition, thanks to "Team Diet", you do a great job. Keep going.

    Hello,
I am a family doctor in Canada and I have started a weight loss program based on LCHF/intermittent fasting. I love your website and am constantly sending my patients to it for more information. I would like to include some of your videos into the group counselling sessions I do for my patients. I'm wondering if I can purchase copies of the videos for the weight loss program I have set up? I'm also wondering if I can get a group discount for my patients so they can access your membership only section during the program and for longer if they choose (or maybe a coupon for a free trial for a month or two as I believe your free one month trial will no longer be available soon?)
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Thanks for all your hard work

    Hello,
I am a teacher and I have started your diet and it has obviously helped my diabetes 1. However, though I would love to continue watching the web on daily basis, I am so busy commuting from university to universit that I seldom find enough time during the working week and I fell asleep before I go to your web . Therefore I would welcome a possibility to pay for a period of 30 days when I visit the web. If I get to your web 2-3 times a month, I am finding that silly to pay for a month. Could I ask to pay for an individual period of 30 days no matter whether it is the same month or not?

Thanks for your informative website on the lchf lifestyle. I need some help with a problem I'm encountering on it. I was diagnosed with severe hypertension at 19 and that began my healthy lifestyle journey. I was able to reverse it and go off drugs 6 months into diagnosis adapting low fat /low calorie diets after some weight loss and have been drug free for 3yrs then I came across this lifestyle and because it would be very difficult to fully adapt I browsed and decided to adopt the cyclical ketogenic diet but within the past one, two week(s) I've had my systolic go up to 153 and my diastolic go up to 83 on 2 separate occasions and I need advice on whether to go all strict or revert to my previous woe. Do reply. Thank you

I was on this diet for 5 month already, yes I lost lot of weight and made me feel good about how I look except last week blood test came back with high cholesterol at 279. My cardiologist wants to put me on medicine and start eating low fat high fiber diet. Right now I am so confused not knowing what to do whether to just drop off from the LCHF diet or perhaps is there another alternative. thanks

I am insulin dependent on both long and short acting. I have been on a low carb diet for 5 months now. My a1c has gone up from 8.5 to 11! My blood sugar was doing so well at first I stopped tracking it often. I enjoy this way of life (I have lost 20lb!). My Dr insists that I MUST eat 45 carbs a meal and take massive amounts of insulin. What am I doing wrong?

Came across a website calorieking.com and I cannot believe the crap they turn out! Calorie counting is a great way to get your body into survival mode and regain at least double what you may lose! This is the 21st century FFS and so called professionals still spew out the same old garbage.

    To whom it may concern,
I´m writing this email, because I´m interested in adopting this
diet, but I don´t need to loose weight but to maintain it. I have been
reading about ketosis on Internet -also your website- and I don´t know
how to calculate the amount of fat that I would have to eat in order
    to reach ketosis.
I know I have to ingest between 20 to 50 grams of carbs and 37 to
55 grams of protein, but again I get lost on how to determine or
estimate the amount of fat that I would have to eat, because I have
heard that you could gain weight if you exceed the level of fat that
your body needs to function according to this diet or life style.
    Sincerely yours,
    Daniela Morán.

Researching low carb and noticing one of the side effects some men are seeing after starting low carb is ED/diminished libido. And as soon as they add back more carbs, it goes back to normal (can google this to see). How can this be avoided if one wants to go low carb?

I joined Nov 1 (at 209 lbs) and now weigh 186 two months later! Yaaay! This is the first diet that works well around my late night cheese cravings, I just had to ditch the crackers. Reading articles and watching videos here helped me learn and (at least) partially understand how badly I was addicted to sugar and what that was doing to my health. I believe I found these LCHF ideas just in time to stop prediabetes from becoming a reality for me. Thanks Team Diet Doctor!

Dr Andreas - you skipped over my question :|
  41. Bradley,
That side effect is not known to me – in fact I've quite often heard people experience the opposite. The worst thing for getting ED – besides smoking – is likely high blood sugar levels, and low carb is great at preventing that.

Sent one 3 days ago and no response.
    Reply: #148
  46. Yes, most definitely. You should get a reply within 24 hours at the latest if there is some support question.

From what I can see your email was about recipe suggestions and questions about cooking methods. We do not currently have the capacity to support any personal or low-carb related question so maybe that's why the response is delayed.

Regarding the measurements it's possible to switch between US and metric units and we're currently working hard to improve the units handling and adding support for UK measurements too.
