    Low carb/paleo breads, cookies, muffins, etc are like the nicotine patch. You're still feeding the addiction. I'd rather fill up on buttery vegetables and well-marbled meats.

    They are PRETENDING to "clean up their act" for their profit's sake. When they were first called out on their lies they ignored it for months and months but now the word is out and they can't hide so they "reformulated" but haven't solved the problem...which is this:

    "Fake" carby foods ARE carby foods--theres' no way to turn shit into shinola. And there's a whole lot more NOT to like about carby breads than just their carbs---read "Wheat Belly" to see. And Lari, the nicotine patches and gums are about gradual weaning OFF the substance you are already addicted to, so your comparison isn't really accurate---and even moreso since a patch or gum doesn't have the same "satisfaction" quotient to a cig addict (I hate them and am allergic to the smoke so that's not me, but I know people who've used those tools effectively to get off the substance.)

    The basic promise/lie of the faux-lo carb products is that you can quite literally have your cake and eat it, too. You can't. Furthermore, since carbs are highly addictive too, getting off them completely will reduce the desire to eat them substantially. I sure miss buttered sourdough toast...but I do not miss the joint pain, the weight, and will NOT miss the alzheimers, gout, diabetes, heart disease and the rest of the bad stuff that would have gotten me as I got older if I'd kept on eating carbs and/or bought the LIES of people like Julian (I tried the bread and it was AWFUL and toasted like rubber, not bread) or Dreamfields (never even tried it thank goodness.)

    There's no substitute for POISON that isn't POISON, and why would you really want one? Re-introduce your palate to all those fat, delicious things that the propagandists have tried to steer you away from! They're not only healthy, certainly MUCH healthier than the faux-lo-carb crap, but they are absolutely DELICIOUS.

    PS. I just read the interview with the Julian guy. It is HIGHLY biased and clearly since the interviewer, despite his claim to credentials as an investigator, has his own reputational axe to grind as an endorser of their products, the questions and answers are pretty self-serving.

    The facts are that when people like Ms. Kreuger went public with their findings they didn't get THANKS from Julian, they got SILENCE and these people still kept selling products with lies on the label. They had done it for years and years making serious incomes from it and to now say "Oh gosh, we sure wish we hadn't" is hardly an answer. To say after the fact years and years later that maybe they should have submitted their products to a lab BEFORE putting utterly FALSE labels on them is a pretty weak answer, but of course the alternative is the truth: That they didn't WANT to know (if they really didn't which I doubt) that they were committing fraud. Sadly, as many articles here on DietDoctor.com have shown, the FDA's procedures are RE-active, only looking into something after the fact and even then rarely, rather than PRO-active in having all labels and claims submitted for approval/verification PRIOR to the release of a product the way, for one example, all drugs must be approved. I know, I know, their budgets and staffs are too tight to do this allegedly, but for manufacturers to capitalize on that weakness in the system and then claim "Oh gosh, sorry. Now buy the new stuff" is hardly an honest excuse. As for that "sponge problem" it was MUCH MORE THAN THAT as anyone who sees that famous video can attest--its linked here on the site somewhere too, so do watch it. When the man in the video says he didn't dare feed that bread to his pigs because he didn't want them to die he's not kidding. Making a product that is totally indigestible and unfit for consumption by man or beast and making money selling it over and over and over again isn't a "mistake"...its a FRAUD. All the softball interviews and hardly-hidden-agenda interviewers in the world can't change the facts.

    Julian Bakery is a fraud company that has profited from people and made diabetics SICK for years and years. All the mumbo-jumbo about how "healthy" they are doesn't change the truth.

    P.P.S. Just explored the website of the interviewer, one Gary Collins. Among the products he's peddling is some sort of "fudge bar" thing claimed to be "healthy"....well gosh, it only has TWENTY THREE GRAMS OF CARBOHYDRATE in it. Folks, when you see something that's 220 calories and only 90 are from fat, what COULD the rest be from but...yep....carbs, carbs, and more carbs.

    SO much for this guy. Hes' in bed with Julian and the rest of the fakes and scammers.

    My wife is (slowly) moving towards a low-carb diet. She's seen me lose 80 lbs over the last 2 years, and has lost some weight because I do most of the cooking but has only recently been skipping bread most of the time. Baby steps seem to be the way to go for her, whereas I simply stopped as an experiment and kept going when it worked.

    She's been asking me to make so-called paleo desserts, and I've been resistant to the idea unless they're berry-driven and have only the tiniest amount of sweetener added. I don't think she's discovered these so-called low-carb products, but if she does there's now a resource where I can point her. She's better at listening to third parties than to me. :-)

    I have spent the last 3 months doing my new website and truly, I have not said one thing any more eloquently than what you have said here. I have a Google alert set for Julian Bakery so I can see and hear anything Heath Squier puts out onto the internet almost immediately, just as Heath will know of this post immediately. Thank you for your kind words and though I have not been thanked by Heath prior to this (and I don’t need or want his thanks) I have to say that there are other people who have helped me along in the last year.

    If you go to Breaking News at the bottom of this page on the new site http://low-carb-scams.com/offending-companies/the-bernie-madoff-of-th... you will see what Heath has been up to for the last almost eight months. The FDA had busted him, he was in panic mode, and this is what he did.
    It is my belief that Heath will always have his small army of defenders so…OK, and so what? It is the truth that matters-not necessarily what Heath Squier or any of his defenders may do or say.

    I fell for the advertising and bought a loaf of Julian Bakery no-carb bread. Cost me over $7.00--boy was I dumb. It tasted like cardboard no matter what I put on it. Ended up throwing it away. I also tried the Dreamfield pasta and it just didn't taste good. Too many companies are jumping on the low/no carb bandwagon and pedaling stuff. So far the only thing I've found that I like is the Mission low carb tortillas. They are really good and can be used for all kinds of things. Again, moderation is the key as they are just lower in carbs than regular tortillas. We need to use common sense when buying groceries and read the food labels. It's not rocket science.

    Aren’t there people on low carb diets who Do eat whole grains? Their diets are not extremely low carb or ketogenic, but still relatively low carb (especially compared to the way most people eat). These people might well benefit from breads that have high fiber, even if the carb content is also high. Surely, these breads are going to be more wholesome than white bread? I think it’s an individual thing. I do also think that relying on the false claims of “low carb” this or that, can be dangerous – but still, even this kind of bread, purported to be low carb, is not so bad once in a while? People eat Atkins bars & they are not particularly low carb, despite claims to the contrary. Is a piece of high fiber, whole grain bread better or worse than an Atkins bar, w/all the crap in it? Is corn on the cob bad or is it better than processed hot dogs? Is diet soda bad, or is it better than a milk shake (made with all natural ingredients)? Is corn fed meat bad, or is it ok, especially compared to lasagna (even if the lasagna is made with all natural, whole ingredients)??? I guess we all have to make our compromises. I have some whole grain bread in my freezer. I don’t know when I will have it again – I had 2 slices about 3 weeks ago. It was delicious. It’s called “Food For Life” and doesn’t make any claim (that I know of) about being low carb. Every so often I like to have some. If it keeps me away from Twinkies, is it really that bad? Here is the bread I have, w/the ingredients listed:
    How bad is this for me? How good is this for me? If it keeps me away from cake & twinkies, maybe it’s not so bad…especially if i only have it every so often. I don’t crave it like I do w/sweets.
    I guess we all have to make our own choices.

    I had a certified diabetic educator GIVE me a coupon for Dreamfields pasta, saying it was a good product. If this is what the certified R.D.s are doing, there is no hope for us. She was no fan of Gary Taubes either, and absolutely gave me a hard time for reading his books and agreeing with what he had to say. I never made another appointment with her again.

    That is going to vary from person to person. I avoid honey. You may wish to test to see if it affects your blood sugar.
