"Saturated fat is not empty calories. Sugar is not empty calories, "says Dr. Robert Lustig, a professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and co-founder and president of the Institute for Responsible Nutrition. "Sugar is not dangerous Because it's calories; Sugar Is Dangerous Because it is toxic calories. "(Lustig was not Involved in the new publication.)"
I note that they responded in the BMJ.
I personally find it irresponsible that they sanctioned the low fat diet with really no randomized controlled trials. It's also irresponsible that they have RCTs now such as the Women's Health Initiative and many other much smaller trials, all of which that indicate that low fat is a failure and low carb improves blood markers of cardiac risk better than low fat, and they completely ignore them.
