A broken world

Something is badly wrong. While the prosperity of the world has never been higher, people are suffering. More and more people – the majority in the Western world – are obese or overweight, and a high percentage of them on prescription drugs every day for the rest of their lives.

Every year more people are added to the sad statistics. As we get increasingly richer as a society, our health appears to be declining. Why is this?

People feel guilt and shame, as if the excess weight, hunger and tiredness were their fault, a moral failing. They count their calories and attempt to eat less food and exercise more, but it’s not working. If only they had more willpower.

Diabetes type 2 – a new epidemic in the history of humankind – will soon impact 500 million people. The death toll will be enormous, as will the armies of people suffering the consequences: blindness, dementia, heart disease, cancer. This new disease is considered incurable, and the treatment is daily drugs to reduce the symptoms. There is no cure, experts say.

Obesity – another new epidemic that will soon include half the population – is considered almost as incurable. The only effective treatment is said to be bariatric surgery, i.e. surgically removing parts of healthy organs. This operation carries a significant risk of life-long misery and sometimes even death. And a year after surgery, the excess weight usually starts returning.

And even worse, epidemics of obesity and diabetes are just the tip of the iceberg. As these problems spread across the world, other diseases follow closely behind: heart disease, cancer, eating disorders and food addiction, high blood pressure, ADHD, depression and on and on.

Experts still trumpet eating less and exercising more to slow down the epidemics, and they have been advising this for 30 years as the problems have exploded. These recommendations are not working.

It may be even worse. The problem really started to get bad in the early 80s, just when we were told to eat “healthily”, just when the first Dietary Guidelines for Americans were released, and then copied around the world. That’s when the epidemic started.

Possibilities and what’s holding us back

Something is very wrong in the world today. Our bodies are made to stay healthy throughout our lives and supply us with the energy to reach our goals and our potential. We can absolutely return to this natural state. With the resources the world has today there should be no stopping us.

This is not about a lack of willpower. You already have all the willpower you’ll ever need.

Imagine a world where everyone can feel good in his or her body again, where all the children can run and play without having to stop and catch their breath every few steps, where there’s no need for mass pill popping, a nation no longer on drugs, where nobody is obsessively counting calories to starve himself. Where health is normal again. Where we can reach our potential and care for each other. Where we use our willpower for higher purposes, together shaping a better world for our children.

Much of what we need to get there is already known. But it’s not that simple. The food industry profits from selling cheap, low-fat, highly processed, nutritionally depleted and addictive food. And we’re advised to eat at least every three hours. The pharmaceutical industry profits by selling daily medications to temporarily reduce the symptoms of all the diseases caused by the food.


These are trillion dollar industries. There’s a lot of money to be made keeping you sick.

The truth is obscured by corporate propaganda, companies selling junk food and pills while using lies and misinformation for the benefit of their shareholders but to the detriment of humanity. It’s obscured by government ineptitude, allowing corporations to rule via armies of highly-paid lobbyists, while relying on old experts who are often stuck in failed preconceptions, unable to update their thinking. That is, if the experts are not simply funded by corporations too.

Just as an example, it was recently exposed how Coca-Cola spends tens of millions of dollars buying the loyalty of government health experts and scientists as well as high-profile bloggers and personal trainers. To not mention the dangers of drinking sugar. To keep quiet about it. That’s the reality behind their slogan about “open happiness” and billions of dollars of feel-good advertising. How are obesity, disease and lies the road to happiness?

It may seem impossible to change this. What can one person do? Not much. But together, using modern tools… if we have the will, we can change anything.

Towards the solution

What would you do if there was a clear way to make the world a better place?

Most of the truth we need is already out there, it is already known, many are already using it with fantastic results. What’s needed is to find this truth and make it as simple as possible to use. To empower people everywhere to revolutionize their health.

This can’t be achieved by using old thinking. We’ll have to question everything. And it can’t be achieved by selling a magic product, a pill or a packaged food product or by financing from the corporations that are profiting from the status quo. That’s the thinking that got us into this mess.

Here at Diet Doctor we want to be a part of the solution. That’s why we’ve decided to take no money from industry. We sell no food, no supplements, no other products and we have no ads.

The solution

The solution to the obesity and diabetes epidemics already exists. It’s very simple:


That’s basically it. Although there are additional details, if you want to lose weight effortlessly or to reduce your diabetes you should probably make a special effort to drastically reduce the carbohydrates, especially sugar and processed starch (like flour) that you consume.

Natural fat, like butter? Eating that is fine. Red meat? That’s fine too. Calories? That’s just another – bizarre – name for food. Eating real food is perfectly fine, as long as you are hungry. Counting calories and ignoring your hunger is an eating disorder.

Exercise? That’s great for your health and well-being, but it’s never going to make you thin. You cannot outrun a bad diet.

There’s only one long-term solution that is truly effective. Eat real food, when you are hungry.

Why change is so slow

So if the problem is so huge, and the solution already exists – why is the problem not solved already?

TIME: Eat ButterBecause of inertia, old dogma and vested interests. Primarily it’s just hard for us humans to change our minds. It takes time.

The mistaken fear of natural fat is still just alive, like some half-dead zombie – even though modern science has thoroughly disproven it. TIME magazine even put this fact on its cover in 2014. Fearing natural fat leads to even more high-carb, high-sugar junk food – so it’s been a really bad idea.

There is also massive money to be made from the status quo. The entire food and pharmaceutical industries depend on it, and they employ armies of lobbyists and even researchers.

The food industry wants to divert the blame from their bad food (the real problem) to their consumers. That is why they to keep the focus on calorie counting, “personal responsibility” and exercise.

The pharmaceutical industry does not want people to get well. It’s easy to understand why. That would put them out of business.

The government would love to improve the health of the people, but official agencies move slowly and are easy prey for professional lobbyists and influencers. Just look at Michelle Obama’s sadly failed “Let’s Move” campaign. As soon as the junk-food industry got involved, everything turned into empty pep talk, with no real change that anybody truly believes in.

    My mother (73 years old) lives in Sweden (Gothenburg) and currently in remission from multiple myeloma. She is overweight and suffers badly from arthritis in her right knee, she is on pretty heavy painkillers that do not do much for her. I was wondering if there is a LCHF friendly doctor that practices in GBG that she might be able to see to get advice from please? or any other LCHF friendly Doctor relatively close to GBG?     thank you for the excellent movies and videos. I recently watched the movies on the connection between statins and big pharma. I am wondering if you have any similar sources of information for acid reflux medications. Almost everyone I know takes these. I would like to see what the real statistics are for the effectiveness of these drugs and what the risks are. Of course, I would like to see a discussion on how diet can address acid reflux problems.

    Hi Diet Doctor -- I love the site and the info, but I am not liking your new Ask an Expert question format. It is much harder to find answers because the question is hidden. When I search on terms, it doesn't bring up related answers.
    I posted a question about LCHF modifications for gout (my husband is experiencing it.) Can't see if my question has been answered because I can no longer find it; can't find other questions or responses related to gout.
    I suppose you are getting so many questions you had to come up with a new format, but this one is not user friendly, or seemingly search friendly.
    You really need to clean up your blog sites. I am a low carb high fat pediatrician in Pennsylvania Usa and I am referring patients to your site daily. some of the blog sites like the recent post on Authority Nutrition really contradict our lchf philosophy by preaching the standard communist party "eat your lean meats, low fat dairy and all those healthy fruits and vegetables" pablum. please have your staff thoroughly scan what is being posted and eliminate some of these sites. My patients are being confused enough by the American media and most doctors. i need to know that i can send them to Diet Doctor to view consistent truth. thank you.

    I have seen my son lose 61 pounds eating this way so I know that it works. I have been eating this way for over a year and have gained slightly but it does make my digestive system happy. I just went to the doctor for my yearly exam and she wants to put me on statins because my LDL cholesterol is 186. My total cholesterol is 273. HDL is 76 and triglycerides are 66. I am not worried but she is. Should I be worried? I am a 58 year old woman, about 20 pounds overweight.

    I am a newbie. I started the day after Christmas. Your program--the information, the videos, the guidance--have changed my life and provided old-fashioned HOPE that I can end this cycle of sugar addiction and insulin resistance (I'm pre-D) and get healthy. Within 24 hours of starting, I was able to stop taking the pills my doctor prescribed to give me energy. I could feel my natural energy returning. It was amazing. A few days ago, my son came home and told me he had eaten the rest of the ice cream in the freezer. I suddenly realized that I HAD FORGOTTEN that it was even there! My cravings are completely gone.     A recent change in unit of measure in Metric system. You started to express volume in dl (decilitre) which is totally odd and unknown (at least here in Europe). Just a recommendation - would you consider coming back to ml ?

    Hello, I've been reading your website and so far I really like the sound of it. My only concern is this, we're dairy free in my house because my daughter has a severe allergy and I use a dairy free alternative butter that is primarily made of soybean oil and we use cashew milk, which is almost no carb. Do you think this diet would still work out? My husband would be all too happy to start using real butter but I dread the thought of making 2 dinners and not being able to share my food with my daughter. Thank you!

    Hi, I noticed that in all of the recipes, offal (liver, kidneys, heart, etc.) are not mentioned. It's not that I eat offal that often but sometimes it is nice to have a change and have let's say have 'devilled kidneys' or 'calves liver'. As most offal is high in saturated fat I wondered why offal recipes were not mentioned. Your comments would be appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hello- I am on Metformin - 1000 mg/ ER - two times a day
    and Glipizide - XL - 10 mg - two times day ---
    and Invokana - 300 mgl- two times day
    This was after my A1C was 9.9 -- and it dropped to 7.6 after three weeks.

    Now - removed Invokana -- still taking other two above

    A What if I skip meal - do I need to take both medicine ? will I get low BS -- while sleeping ?
    because of some side effects - some times I don't feel hungry --
    Also I work night shift at hotel- front desk clerk - and eat some breakfast early morning
    at 7 :00 to 8:00 am with coffee --then go to sleep at 10:30 or 11:00 am

    B I am skinny- want to gain some weight - muscles - just joined Gym

    To recover - need to drink 50 gm Carbs ?? how does that affect me ?

    I really enjoy your website and find myself visiting often. I just took a look at the meal plans. They look good but as I reside in the Southern Hemisphere it is summer and where I live temperatures are regularly above 35 degrees; great for salads & BBQs, not so great for lasagna or other oven baked foods. So it would be nice to have a choice to create a menu from a selection of receipes which is what I do on paper surrounded by reciepes books (that now include a no. of low carb cookbooks).

    I'm about to start this diet again I done a low carb diet a few years ago and lost 3 stone and felt great but unfortunately couldn't continue the diet because I lost my job and life in general took a turn for the worse so i put all the weight back on.. let's face it the food u need to buy is quite expensive and I had a family to feed so with the little I had coming in I had to buy the cheap high carb usual foods to get us bye. But now I'm back in work and life in general is better so I'm looking to kick start my healthy eating off again I don't actually regard it as healthy eating as I'm actually comfortable eating these type of foods and it don't actually feel like a diet which is what I love about it.. one question I do have is my new job involves 12 + hour days driving a truck and I'm struggling to think about what I can take to work as I have no access to kitchen facilities. Any ideas??? Would need to be 2 decent meals spaced over 4.5 hours??? Kept in a cool bag

    People need to understand that weight is a relative term. It represents total mass of a body. It does not define the composition within that body. Thus your weight can remain exactly the same and yet your body fat percentage can reduce. Best to have your body fat measurement taken before taking the challenge and after a month again. Centimeters should show a difference as fat has more mass than muscle.

    I am trying to follow more or less the main principles of the diet but I have some doubts, can I have teff bread in the morning? I read has low glucemic index and a lot of protein but I am not sure. Can I have stevia? I have read too that it does not increase insuline levels. And the last, I do exercise regularly beach volleyball which is a pretty demanding sport so I am not sure if I should do something different with the diet.

    I've been following LCHF for 15 months now. I've recently been told by my GP that there's a strong possibility that I have multiple sclerosis based on my medical history and manifest symptoms, although I'm currently awaiting neurological testing. I supplement a probiotic, a multivitamin, cayenne pepper, magnesium, apple cider vinegar and psyllium husk. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or dietary advice.

    I found your awesome site 7 months ago after I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. At the time, my A1C was 7.7; I had Stage 2 hypertension; and was 50 pounds overweight. After adopting the LCHF diet, exercising, and engaging in various forms of intermittent fasting, my A1C was lowered to 5.7, the hypertension resolved, and I lost a total of 55 pounds. I never took diabetes medication, and I stopped taking BP meds when after 8 weeks of the lifestyle changes, my BP began normalizing (I also take supplements that I believe helped correct the abnormal BP--although weight loss made healing possible).

    At this point, I no longer wish to loose weight; I'm now eating a full 2000 calories daily--still LCHF. I'm having issues gaining weight. On your site, I found the two articles posted below, and hopped you could provide some clarity. It seems that I would be challenging to gain on LCHF. My weight gain goals are complicated by the fact that I am attempting to keep blood glucose as low as possible, which makes eating 3 meals daily harder for me. I thought of just eating one large LCHF meal (at least 2000) daily, but think that will make it extremely hard for me to gain. I know that some body builders--that even happen to be vegan--can gain mass on one meal daily with proper nutrition; however, I am certain that in such cases, the body builders are eating a fair amount of carbs. Any suggestions about how to keep BG low and increase calorie intake would be ideal and most appreciated. Thank you...

    Hello! I felt so guilty for not being a member while getting all the benefits for the past 3 months. Now I'm a member and feel so good about it. I am 72 and my wife is 70 and we are so happy that we found you while we are still alive! I will just talk about myself and my wife will tell her fortunes herself. On Oct.20, 3 months ago, my wife went on the Atkins Diet again (she tried it 8 years ago but failed, maybe because she was on her own). I decided on joining her 2 days later for the main reason of not to prepare different meals when we eat together. It worked and is working wonders! I have lost 27 lbs in 3 months and I am 148 now and I do not want to lose anymore. I was a big-time diabetic shooting myself 4 times a day with 350 total units of Insulin N & R, also taking extended-release Metformin 500 2 tabs in the morning and 1 at night. Had an A1c of 12.5 three months ago to 7.2 today, that's from 312 to 160! Although that is still not normal, I am so thrilled with the improvement! The soles on my feet are not as rough anymore and they look really good! I feel happier too (a little has to do with Trump...oh oh, somebody just stopped reading, sorry). I notice that my memory must have improved too since I can remember names and recall places and events a lot better. Before, we thought that a low-carb diet was enough. We did not know that a low-carb high-fat diet is much much superior. We are so successful with the lchf diet because it is just so tasty and so abundant and very easy to prepare or cook. "Fat" is such a beautiful word! Our worry now is we might live for another 30 years and we hope we don't!
