There are a number of ways to determine whether or not you need stretching . Perhaps the BMI calculator says that you are overweight and out of shape. Perhaps you are experiencing back pain as a result of a spare tire or a “pizza belly” as it were. The truth is, everyone needs to incorporate stretching into their daily routine, especially if they are working out. Stretching exercises are one of the most important fitness tools that you have in your toolbox because they keep your muscles from becoming tight or fatigued, they help to prevent injury, and they also make sure that your muscles and your tendons are in the bets possible working order.
Although you should attempt to achieve a full body stretch every day, it is also possible to only stretch the parts of your body that you intend to work out during that day. If you are working on your back and chest one day, for example, then those are the muscles that you are going to want to pay attention to while performing stretch exercises.
- When stretching, it is important that you have already warmed up your muscles, otherwise you can stretch too far or stretch tight, cold muscles, ending up hurting yourself rather than benefiting yourself.
- You should never attempt to jerk your movements, and you should never simply hold the stretch for a few moments, because these stretches are a waste of time and are not benefiting you in any way. If you want to benefit from your stretching exercises then you need to be willing to move slowly and deliberately, holding the stretched position long enough to benefit from it, which is usually a period of at least 20 to 30 seconds if not more. Moving into the next position or the original position should be done just as slowly and just as deliberately.
Stretching is vital to your health and the health of your muscles, it is simple once you know what you are doing, and best of all it is free because it requires no machinery and you can do it from absolutely anywhere. For this reason you should absolutely be stretching every day, rain or shine.
