Accupuncture

Stick a Pin in It

Among the many medical methods making the cross-continent leap today, acupuncture ranks highly. This is a traditional Chinese art of healing, which most people know as the art of healing by inserting pins in the body, which has been practiced there for thousands of years. However, in recent decades, acupuncture has made the quantum leap from being a purely Asian form of medicine to becoming a worldwide form of therapy. The western world has accepted acupuncture into its fold, with several practitioners having their offices in the main areas of the cities and servicing several clients.

Though the western world often misspells this therapy as accupuncture , there is a certain amount of respect and belief in this therapeutic method here also. That said, it is understandable why there still is a lot of ignorance about the therapy. This form of Chinese medicine does not fit in with our conventional methods of healing. There are no medicines to be orally consumed, diagnoses with stethoscopes done, etc. The only thing done is inserting pins at varying angles in several places of the body.

It is important to know how acupuncture works in order to understand whether it is effective or not. The Chinese believe that the human body is comprised of energy known as qi or chi which runs through fixed meridians in the body. There are two components of this energy, known as the yin and the yang . When these two are in balance, the qi is in balance too and the body functions smoothly. However, if there is obstruction along any of the energy lines, the yin and the yang are also put into disarray and that is when health problems begin to occur. These cannot be corrected until and unless the energy lines are freed up once again.

That is why acupuncture uses the therapy of sticking pins into the body. The pins are stuck along the lines through which the qi energy flows. The intention is to free up the meridians so that the energy begins to flow unhindered once again and that the energy imbalances are corrected.

A very close approach, acupressure , also follows the same principles. But instead of sticking pins, acupressure deals with pressing various trigger points of the body with the thumb and fingers.

Today, acupuncture has become one of the most rapidly advancing methods in the world in terms of popularity. Many celebrities are including this in their personal fitness tools and then method is also included in some gyms along with their exercise tips . The one reason why acupuncture has become more popular over most other forms of alternative medicine is that it does not introduce anything into the body. There are no herbal recipes or chemicals to be consumed, which means it is a very safe method to use. Contrary to what one might think, acupuncture is not painful at all and causes no bleeding.

The concept of acupuncture weight loss is gathering momentum on a worldwide level. People are using the ‘strange sticking pins method of the East’ to cure their maladies of excess weight. On the other hand, professionals are finding that acupuncture is a good supplement to study reflexology and in enhancing massage therapies.

The basic point is that acupuncture has stayed for a long time and it still promises to be around for a long time ahead.
